American Heart Association AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support HeartCode ACLS Parts 2 and 3 in person hands on Skills Checkoffs at First In Last Out Medical Response 3322 Coors Blvd NW Suite 4 Albuquerque, NM 87120.

An AHA ACLS “HeartCode Skills Checkoff” (sometimes called the “skills session” or “skills check-off”) is the hands-on, in-person component of a HeartCode® ACLS (blended learning) course. It’s where participants demonstrate mastery of the required psychomotor skills, team dynamics, and simulation scenarios under instructor evaluation, after completing the online portion. cpr.heart.org+2ShopCPR+2

Here’s a breakdown of how it works, what’s involved, and what to expect:

What Is HeartCode® ACLS + Skills Checkoff?

  • HeartCode ACLS is a “blended learning” approach: participants complete the didactic or cognitive content (eLearning, simulations, quizzes) online at their own pace, followed by an in-person skills checkoff with an instructor to validate their hands-on abilities. cpr.heart.org+2cpr.heart.org+2

  • The skills checkoff is the in-person (or in some settings, in-simulation) session where students are observed performing ACLS skills (e.g. CPR, airway management, defibrillation, team leadership) and are tested via “megacode” (full scenario simulation) or similar integrated scenario tests. • Successfully passing the skills checkoff (plus having completed the online portion) earns the participant the AHA ACLS Provider Course Completion Card (valid for two years) just as in a fully instructor-led course would. CJCFPD+2cpr.heart.org+2

Key Features & Logistics

Duration Skills checkoffs can vary in length depending on the training center, but commonly are scheduled for ~2 to 5–6 hours (depending on how many scenarios and skills are tested). ShopCPR+4cpr.heart.org+4CJCFPD+4
Content The checkoff covers essential ACLS psychomotor tasks: high-quality CPR, airway and ventilation management, defibrillation/shock delivery, use of algorithms for arrhythmias (bradycardia, tachycardia, pulseless rhythms), team dynamics, leadership communication in resuscitation scenarios, among others. Simulation / Megacode Participants are typically evaluated via one or more full-case simulations (megacode) which test integration of skills, decision-making, timing, and team coordination. cpr.heart.org+2CJCFPD+2
Evaluation / Pass / Remediation Instructors use a skills checklist or rubric to assess performance. If learners don’t meet all criteria, remediation and retesting may be required before awarding certification. ShopCPR+2CJCFPD+2
Once Passed After successful completion of the skills checkoff (and proof of online portion), the student receives the ACLS Provider card (valid two years) just as in a fully in-class ACLS course.
