NREMT’s and state License renewal for EMS practitioners is easy, efficient, convenient, and effectively meets today’s License renewal requirements. NREMT and state License renewal is for Paramedics, Advanced EMTs, and EMTs, who are taught in a classroom and virtually.
License Renewal courses are built from the latest editions of NAEMT’s globally recognized courses to fulfill the national component of the National Registry’s recertification requirements, in accordance with the National Continued Competency program (NCCP). Each course meets the NREMT requirements for each training level:
NAEMT’s Refresher courses are developed using NAEMT’s evidence-based, field-tested, and quality-assured curriculum, including Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS), and Geriatric Education for EMS (GEMS).

In addition to NAMET Virtual classes, you will attend a two-day in-person skills assessment course for PHTLS and AHA 3:1 certification.
The AHA 3:1 will have online pre-coursework required before the start of the class. You will receive hands-on instruction in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
Hands-on will consist of logical and critical thinking of adult and pediatric patients utilizing airway equipment and cardiac monitors.

An NREMT Refresher is a continuing education course for EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians) to renew their state and national certification, focusing on updated skills and knowledge through the National Continued Competency Program (NCCP) by covering core topics like airway, cardiac, medical, trauma, and operations, often in self-paced online formats to meet state and national requirements before their 2-year cycle ends.

Key Aspects of NREMT Refreshers:
  • Purpose: To maintain NM State EMS and NREMT certification, which requires periodic renewal (typically every two years).
  • Structure (NCCP Model): Covers continuing education hours in specific domains:
  • Format: Often self-paced, online, and delivered through platforms like Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) or Distributive Education (DE).
  • Credit Hours: Typically involves earning around 40 continuing education (CE) credits, sometimes more, depending on the specific program and state.
  • Benefits: Keeps EMTs current with evidence-based medicine, ensures public safety, and provides nationally recognized credibility.

How it Works for Renewal:
  1. Meet Deadlines: Complete requirements before the March 31 expiration date.
  2. Earn CEUs: Take approved refresher courses, often online.
  3. Skills Competency: Fulfill state-approved BLS (Basic Life Support) skills competency.
  4. Application: Submit your recertification application to the NREMT online, proving completion.

If You Let it Lapse:
  • Grace Period: There's a grace period (up to 2 years) for reinstatement.
  • Reinstatement: May involve extra CE hours, fees, or even retaking exams and courses if lapsed too long.
  • NREMT recertification costs vary by level: EMR is ~$18, EMT is ~$25, AEMT is ~$26, and Paramedic is ~$32 for the basic renewal fee as of 2025. These fees are for the National Registry portion; you'll also pay for continuing education (CE) courses, which vary but can be found for around $79-$259 depending on the provider and package. Late renewals incur a $50 fee plus the renewal fee, and lapse beyond a grace period requires re-testing at higher costs (e.g., EMT cognitive exam is $104).

    NREMT Recertification Fees (2025)
    • EMR: $18
    • EMT: $25
    • AEMT: $26
    • Paramedic: $32

    Additional Costs & Fees
    • Continuing Education (CE): Costs for required CE hours vary by provider (e.g., $79-$259 for EMT packages).
    • Late Renewal: A $50 fee added to the renewal fee if you miss the deadline but apply within the grace period (e.g., up to 30 days).
    • Reinstatement: If your certification lapses significantly, you may need to retake the cognitive exam, costing around $104 for EMT, $136 for AEMT, and $160 for Paramedic.
    • Paper Applications: A $5 processing fee applies to paper applications.

    Key Takeaway
The core NREMT fee is relatively low, but budget for the cost of your mandatory continuing education hours and potential late fees if you miss deadlines.
